You asked, we answered. Reusable boxes are here! Like our customers, Goodfood is committed to fighting climate change by reducing our reliance on plastic and making more sustainable choices every day.
Our first-of-its-kind reusable delivery box was a labour of love produced in collaboration with a local Quebec-based company. Designed with a life expectancy of 4 years, this super-insulator is also super lightweight due to its plastic compound construction that’s 95% air. Inside the box, your favourite ingredients are kept fresh with a custom, non-toxic ice pack.
We worked with our 30 delivery partners across the country to ensure the reusable box collection was as efficient as possible. The box and ice packs are collected on delivery day (in their usual delivery spot) and sanitized so they can be reused again and again.
You read that right: these light, stackable (and nestable) reusable boxes are built tough in order to last up to 4 years on the road! If we reach our initial goal of a 25% adoption rate across the country, that means 12 million fewer pieces of single-serve packaging ending up in landfills. When the box has reached the end of its life, it will be 100% recycled into new boxes so it will stay out of the landfill too. Total recyclability was a must for our reusable boxes.
But this is just the beginning. Within the next year, we’re aiming to reduce our use of plastic inside the box by 50% and lead the way in setting a new standard for our industry.
Select members in Montreal and Calgary have already tried and tested this greener, leaner box and reusables boxes will roll out to the rest of our members soon.
How are you reducing your carbon footprint? Embrace the challenge, keep an eye out for our new reusable box program coming soon to your city!
